Parenting: the hardest job you'll ever have

Post by Kati Owens, Early Childhood Specialist at Kidspace Children's Museum

It’s that 24/7 job that doesn't accrue sick time or vacation days… you lose sleep, you lose your sanity from time to time and you often lose your sense of real grown up time. While the rewards of raising a child far outweigh the stress, frustration and changes in your life, it’s often easy to lose focus and forget that you are a person with needs as well.

While being a parent is all about making sacrifices for the good of your child, it’s important to give yourself some time to reconnect with, well, yourself - which will allow you to be a better parent in the long run. There are a number of resources in our local community to gain support and grow and learn as a parent in a supportive environment:

RIE: Resources for Infant Educators

Center for Non-Violent Parenting

Pasadena City College Community Education Center

The Go To Mom
