Back to Bubbles

Post by Yvonne Chavez Lombardi, Education Programs Manager at Kidspace Children's Museum.

By popular demand, we are sharing our bubbalicious bubble recipe for making super huge bubbles!
Note: this recipe gives you large quantities so you can host a huge bubble party or try the baby-in-a-bubble trick.

Bubble Recipe

5 1/2 gallons of DISTILLED water (hard water does not produce big enough bubbles because of the properties in the water)

2 bottles (32oz) of original JOY dish washing liquid

1 quart of glycerin or corn syrup

Mix materials together slowly (so as not to create suds). Let it mature overnight for the best bubble results!

You can now use your solution with bubbles wands of all types, bubble machines and more.

How to Create the Baby-in-a-Bubble
1 small plastic swimming pool
1 hula hoop
1-2 cinder blocks

2-3 gallons of bubble solution

Place the cinder blocks in the center of the pool to create a small platform on which to stand. Place the hula hoop in the pool so it rests with the cinder blocks in the center. Pour 2-3 gallons of bubble solution in the pool slowly, so as not to create suds.

Have a child (the "baby") stand tall and straight, with arms at the sides, in the middle of the pool on the cinder blocks. Slowly raise the hula hoop out of the solution, up and around the child. In good weather and low winds, you can produce a huge bubble that is now encompassing the child!

This trick works best in a garage or area where there is protection from the wind. Evne the slightest breeze can make Baby-in-a-Bubble very hard to perform!
