Outdoor Education Specialist Gerard Gonzales found and caught a large black widow spider yesterday. He placed the spider, along with her two egg sacks, into a plastic container. Staff and guests were marveling at the spider's size and clear black and red coloring.
A few hours later, Gerard glanced down at the plastic container and saw something truly amazing: hundreds of tiny baby spiders had emerged from one egg sack and were now crawling in a small web the momma spider had created. The sight was awe (and fear) inspiring, and we have all been interested to see what happens next!

Note: If you find a black widow spider, do not touch it or attempt to catch it. Black widows are venomous spiders and can cause injury and sickness.
